Ancestry link to FindAGrave
« on: Friday 22 July 22 09:22 BST (UK) »
Can anyone explain why every (and I mean every) time I get a hint from Ancestry about a grave memorial in FindAGrave - I click on the link but I get a message saying that that ‘memorial has been removed’?  As a FindAGrave member I do a search of the memorial that I was after - but nothing on there.  WHY?  :-\ :(

Findagrave members can delete memorials they created for any reason. It has been known for a member to have a dispute with admin and then go off in a huff after deleting all their memorials. Were the memorials you were looking for all in the same cemetery or in the same area, so they might have been created by the same person?
If the memorials were accurately created in the correct cemetery, does the Ancestry link give enough information for you to recreate them? Are there burial registers online that you could check to see if the memorials were correctly placed? I am wondering if they were deleted because they were in the wrong cemetery, though in that case they should have been moved to the correct cemetery.
If you are a member of the findagrave forum you could ask there, though I doubt if anyone knows the answer except the person who deleted them. Even if someone was upset with findagrave, I can't imagine why they would delete their memorials - all that work down the drain, it would be cutting off your nose to spite your face really because it wouldn't hurt findagrave that much.

Not an answer to your query but a couple of days ago I noticed several I had entered buried in Lincoln were suddenly coming up as links via Ancestry with deaths in Mexico! Checking the memorials and again Mexico as place of death, I have no idea how or why the details changed.

With full dob, dod, plot details and bio  plus linked to spouse, kids and parents I rarely have edits to perform on them and how Mexico appeared is a total mystery.

Thank you Enumerated and Glen in Tinsel Kni for your thoughts on this strange matter.  Maybe if I try again in a couple of months time, things might have straightened out by then.
Mexico?  ???  Who on earth would change the location like that - another odd occurrence.  I do hope nobody has hacked into the website and changing things.
