Try having a search for the name of the person who certified the cause of death.  The Melbourne coroner at this time was Harry William Pascoe, for example.

There is some wording on the post mortem database that says:
Quote
If the investigation found a death was from natural causes, the records were not kept.

So it appears the pipeline was to first do a post mortem and then:
1) Death is found to be "natural", records were not retained.
2) PM info was retained, but case didn't proceed to a full inquest (possibly simpler cases)
3) Case proceeded to a full inquest.

So depending on the outcome it's possible that the records were not kept.

I have one such post mortem report from Melbourne , ,Australia in 1971.
It states name, d of birth,  place of birth, , place of death, cause ofdeath etc.

A  written report is sent if requested by the next of kin.

Coroner becomes involved if death is sudden and thedeceased had not been under  recent medical care
or there is some doubt as to cause of death or violent  death etc.
