Civil Records MAURITIUS
« on: Thursday 14 July 22 11:20 BST (UK) »
Has anybody had experience with obtaining records from the Civil Status Division of Mauritius? I wrote some time ago about relatives who had died there or had been born there. The CSD replied - "Please send us a copy of your passport or ID card so that we can process the request. Once the document is ready, an officer will contact you for payments and courier or if you choose to have a relative collect your document."
I hadn't told them any specific details, e.g. names or dates, and wrote back asking for clarification. Six months later I haven't heard anything further. Any advice on how best to let them know what I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Your post asked for any advice on how to let the Civil Status Division know what you were looking for.

Given it’s a foreign country I asked if they had an email address as that is a quicker option than writing

I should have said that I emailed them. I didn’t send a letter

If it were me - I would not have let 6mths go by.  I would be emailing them fortnightly asking for a response.

Send another email clearly detailing exactly what info you already have & what info you are looking for.

Ask them whether or not thy are able to provide that info from their records & what are their charges for providing it?

Make it clear that any documents would need to be sent by post to England & ask what the postal charge would be.

Also tell them that any payment due would be made by bank transfer & ask them to include their bank details in their reply
