hello
I am looking for information on a George White who I think married a Charlotte Hill c1848 around the Wolverhampton area
they had as far as i am aware 6 children
george 1849
alfred    1855
william  1860
herbert 1865
charlotte 1865
walter 1871

what worries me is the time scale of the children or did george marry twice ?
the only bit of flimsy notes i have is chalotte was born in 1831 which makes her about 17 getting married
george was a Jappaner/journeyman.
Any info who be great

regards
daveo

Hi Daveo,

Welcome to rootschat  :D

I don't suppose you have the 1861 census? There is another son:

Rg9/1988
Folio 81 p. 6
Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
29 Bloomsbury Street

George White, head, 43, Japanner journeyman, b. Wolverhampton
Charlotte, wife, 29, b. Salop Cleobury
George, son, 12, Castor (?), b. Wolverhampton
Alfred, son, 5, scholar, b. Wolverhampton
James, son, 4, scholar, b. Wolverhampton
William, son, 1, b. Wolverhampton

This doesn't solve your marriage problem, of course.

Tanja  :)

You may indeed be looking at a second marriage for George:  Free BMD has  a marriage record for George White at Wolverhampton (vol. 6b, page 733) with a Charlotte Hill on the same page.   This would mean George Jr (b. 1849-ish) had a different mother.

There are a couple of possibilities for George Jr's birth on Free BMD (including one in Mar qtr 1849 which looks promising) - you would have to buy the certificate to find out his mother's name...

You could also post a lookup request for George Sr in the 1851 census on the Staffordshire board, and hope that his first wife was alive at that point.

Good hunting!
