Hi Rootchatters,
I am completely at a dead-end with this search and so I'm hoping someone can help, please.
Fred Shepherd was my g-grandfather and he is a bit of a mystery. I am not sure if he was born in London, on-board ship en-route to Australia, or in Sydney. I suspect he was born in the early 1850s.
I know he married Mary Leonard in Balmain in 1877. She died in 1886 and he left their 2 children in Balmain and went to the tin-mining town of Tingha. They never saw him again.
He then married Henrietta Hill there in 1899 and they had at least 2 children who survived.
The only other detail I can be sure of is that he died in the Tingha area in 1934. My grandfather was told in the late 1930s when he went looking for his father that Fred had lived alone near the Tingha racecourse and had worked as a labourer or a butcher.
I really want to know more about Fred, and the Tingha connection in his life. If anyone can help with his birth, that would be excellent. His parents were John Shepherd and Eliza/beth Ryman, married in 1852.
If anyone can help, I will be very grateful.
With thanks,
OzJen
