She should show on the censuses in spite of being a resident/patient in hospital/institution. Not sure why she doesn't really.

The 1921 census will be released later this year so another census to try and find her in.

Looking again at the 1901. There is one possibility for Elizabeth showing as LyonS:

Elizabeth Lyons, 13 and born in Glasgow. This Elizabeth is showing as a pupil at the Glasgow Deaf and Dumb Institution in Prospecthill Rd, Cathcart.

This was a residential school. Plenty on it online.

Many thanks for all your help MonicaL I have her death certificate thanks to you it looks like they did add an s to her name in the asylum records, I have also done a little further digging and found her on oldscottish.com and shows her at Gartloch, Haddington Asylum from 1905 to 1912, I will search for on 1921 census when it comes online, but for now I am quite satisfied that we have found her and as much info as will be possible for the time being. Many many thanks for your help on this matter i truly appreciate your time and expertise!!

I was able to call up and look at this medical notes as it was over 75 years since he had died.
if I have to wait until 75th anniversary of her death I will also be 75
How lucky to have found her on https://www.scottishindexes.com/hentry.aspx?hid=1405508 & be able to read her whole file for £15.00 without having to travel is excellent value!

It would cost me more than £15.00 travelling to & from Edinburgh alone.

Hi Berleyclay,

The hospital in Haddington was called Herdmanflat, it had a Garleton Unit.
