« on: Friday 01 July 22 04:28 BST (UK) »
One of my distant cousins Edward Hackett born 1835 appears as executor of his Mother's estate in 1860. His title and address is shown as Corporal Edward Hackett, 15th Regiment of Infantry, Pembroke Dock. I am looking for information on the Regiment.

His army records have not survived and he is not in the 1861 British Army "index". It seems likely that he left the army in the early part of 1861. Fold 3 has a register entry of his court martial in February 1861 at Pembroke Dock, which I haven't seen (no sub).

Thanks that fits in very well with his possible future life. His Aunt Elizabeth mentions him in her will written in 1868. The will gives a legacy to Elizabeth & Jane Hackett, Thorold, Canada, The daughters of Edward Hackett deceased. So it is likely he emigrated to Canada married had 2 daughters and died before 1868. Just have to find more evidence.

I can't find any record of Jane and Elizabeth Hackett in Thorold.

There were some other Hacketts there in 1868:

Joseph DALE, 24, Ireland, Thorold, s/o James & Mary, married Jane HACKETT, 19, Niagara, Thorold, d/o John & Jane

Thanks Almost all the Hacketts in Ontario at the time seem to have come from Ireland. There is a Edward Hackett from England in the Canadian 1861 census but no idea if he is the right one.
