"On my Archibald and Jane's marriage transcript, the witness is a Thomas Kennedy"

Is there only one witness?....usually two?

There may have been some background in publican work.
Here is Archibald in 1885 proposing to open a hotel in Bungendore. Proposing to the court at Cooma
I wonder about his relationship with Ellen ORR whose land the proposal was for.

Oh, yes and Sarah Gregory is the other witness.
Thomas Kennedy just marks X.

I've come across these as well, as I went looking for hotels linked with Kennedy, as I've been told Olive WADE was brought up by her grandparents who ran a hotel.

However the licence for the Napoleon was transferred from Jane Kennedy to a Daniel Kearey in 1896, before Olive was born. (not before she is involved in fines for Sunday selling, suing a Thomas Anderson for selling her water instead of rum, and being sued by the Australian Brewery and Wine and Spirit company for non-payment of goods).

If it IS my Jane, this is the same year she marries William J DAVIS.
Looks like the same Jane.
What did William & Jane Davis do then, I wonder?

Ooh, yes this would be the right Jane Kennedy then!

Archibald had a brother James b. 1843, so perhaps he was the one employed as the barman?

(Added - Arch also had a brother Thomas, who would've been the marriage witness).
