Trying to help someone identify the birth mother of their grandmother, Marjorie Crowe, born in 1905 to one Eleanor Crowe and later adopted. DNA suggests it might be a certain Sarah Eleanor Crowe, who would actually be my half 1st cousin one removed. However, I need to find some firmer evidence for or against this theory. Marjorie's birth and Christening certificates show that her mother was living in Back Sea View in Hoylake cum West Kirby at the time.

Apparently, she was "advertised in the local paper" for adoption and was adopted by a couple living in Frodsham, which is some distance away. I was wondering if some record of this advertisement could be found and if it might give any indications. Does anyone have any idea what the "the local paper" might have been to have been read as far away as Frodsham and if some archives are available?

Given that Marjorie was born in 1905, which is in between the 1901 and 1911 censuses, does anyone have any suggestion as to any other local records that might shed light on this research?

What address is shown on the birth cert for where she was born & is the same address given for Eleanor at the time of registration?

The address given at the baptism of "Margery" was 13 Back Sea View.

Some trees show that Sarah married Duncan Livingstone on 29th October 1910 in Oban, Argyle, and had three children: Archibald 1912, Eleanor May 1915 and Robert Ian 1916.

Apologies ShaunJ for the duplicate post. Thank you DCB, and CaroleW. Yes, I do have the information on Marjorie's family. My question was mainly about what publication this would have been advertised in and any suggestions as to other places to look. The adresses for the birth registration and Christening were different numbers in Back Sea View.

I put “baby girl” into the search on the newspapers and found quite a few advertisements for adoption.

One particular orphanage seems to have placed them in lots of papers around the country, so it could have been in any paper.

The local paper was the Hoylake & West Kirby News & Advertiser, but sadly did not start until 1914/15.  However if you contact Wirral Archives at archives@wirral.gov.uk.  They may be able to tell you what predates this. Possibly a  Birkenhead paper would have covered this area.

There are several ads in Lancashire and Cheshire papers in 1905/6 offering baby girls for adoption. In many cases no names are given and the address is a box number at a newspaper office.
