Married in South Africa 1930 - Divorce Details?
« on: Thursday 12 May 22 21:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I've managed to track down the marriage cert in South Africa for a relative, she married in 1930 but divorced and remarried in 1935.
She didn't remain in SA for long after that....so my question is how do I find the divorce details - I don't have a date and don't know where it would have been registered.
I know in UK that marriages around that time would have have had an amendment made to the original register but not sure how that would work in SA.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thank you
K

Sorry K,

Deleted

Just re-read your post....I thought you meant South Australia, not South Africa.

You can check the archive indexes to see if the divorce is filed there http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm300dl
You can pick which province you search in or pick RSA to search the entire database. In the search fields put her name in usually i put in one name per field. If the divorce comes up you can apply to the relevant archive for a copy. If its not in the KAB archives you can use eggsa.org to go in and photograph the file for a small fee. The archives charge around R1 per page

Contact details for the archives can be found on their website

Some south African court cases are available on ancestry

Correction # it was from familysearch

I remember them being hard to search

And a helpful rootschatter found them for me
