Ancestry test dates, ordered, received, returned etc
« on: Thursday 12 May 22 16:53 BST (UK) »
I've seen questions about dates for DNA tests.

I ordered the kit on 15th April.

The kit arrived on 28th April, and I posted it back that day.

On the 12th May my sample arrived with Ancestry. They say "Your sample is in a queue to be processed, and we’ll let you know once we start extracting and analysing your DNA."

I'll update this when I get my results.

Whilst awaiting your results do you have a plan of actions to undertake ie:-

1 on your Ancestry tree

2 learning about DNA

3 learning about using the DNA tools within Ancestry

Etc

Biggles, it's my second test, so I did those things in the past.  I thought I'd see what their bigger customer base has to offer.

I did an Ancestry DNA test many years ago and found on the My Heritage website a likely 1/2C or 2C who has tested with them (one of the surnames in her tree is part of my brick wall tree so I was able to add her very easily).

To be sure I have just sent off a MyHeritage DNA test, it has taken 14 days via Air Mail to get from the UK to their lab in the USA and their system says c4 weeks to process and report results.

Ancestry is likely to be similar

On the 6th June they said,

Lab processing is taking a bit longer than usual
Due to high demand, our lab needs a little extra time to process your test. We are sorry for the delay, but rest assured — your DNA kit has been received.

Hopefully your next message won't be to say the DNA test has failed like my OH got. They sent him another test, which he did straightaway and returned it the same day. It took a further 8 weeks for his results to appear on line.
Both his test and mine bought in one order in black Friday sale late November 2018. My result on line in 2nd week Jan 2019. OH finally got his in early  April 2019. When there was a large difference between me getting a message to say my sample was going through the process and his messages, we suspected something was wrong with his sample.  Considering he was a medicinal scientist (before retirement) used to handling lab samples in controlled conditions, i cannot accept he contaminated his sample.
