Thanks Ciderdrinker,
you've given a bit more info to explore. I have to be careful as there was another Edward Pegg who lived in Market Drayton. Whether they had any connection to my tree I don't know but I'll go through what  you've given me to check out.

Hi again

I'm a wee bit confused. You said in you last message

Quote
I think that Edward Pegg had a son before he married Willmot, there's no Mother's name on the register, just Edward's. I think that I come down from this son, John

Bjut in your first meassage you said

.when a Edward Pegg b 1682, married a Jane Goldstone and lived at Goldstone Hall. His father was John Pegg and he married a Willmot Slaney.

The information that I've discussed in my previous posts is based on this and Ciderdrinker confirms this.

The piece that I referred to early has similar info:

John Pegg married to Willmot Slaney were Edward's parents. I can't find any information about this John Pegg other that the date of marriage to Willmot. To make it more confusing, I think that maybe John's father was also named John. I'm assuming that the younger JP was the illegitimate son of Edward's from before he married Jane Goldstone. It can get confusing as the name John has been carried on thro' the line quite often.

There seem to be a lot of 'not sures' here.

Before the restoration, entries were varied as there was what is often called 'the Commonwealth Gap'.  Information about it is given in the link below, among others that come up on Google.

What record sources have you looked at so far?
