Hello and welcome to Rootschat

Have you looked at the will of Edward Pegg of  Goldstone?

The Will was dated Feb 1 1765 and Probate dated 1768

Diocese of Lichfield Episcopal Consistory Court

Staffordshire, Dioceses of Lichfield and Coventry Wills and Probate 1521-1860  It is available on Find My Past

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBPRS%2FSTAFF%2F007623182%2F00662&parentid=GBPRS%2FSTAFF%2FWILLS%2F426277

FindMyPast has quite a number of Wills/Probate from the Lichfield Diocese so it might be worth looking through them.  I managed to get wills of some of my ancestors  for  the period that you're interested in from the collection.

Is this correct?

A baptism for Willmot Slaney ~

Drayton in Hales
5 September 1672  Wilmott Slaney daughter of Edward Slany with marginal note corrected to Slaney. Abode and other writing has been truncated in the copying.  See below.

D you have proof that Wilmott is Edward's mother as the dates in the records seem to be inconsistent with a birth/baptism of 1682?

Wilmott b 1672; Edward b 1682, John and Wilmott marry 1688.

Also, this may be relevant:

(Slaney is easier to search for than Peg/Pegg ! )

Hi
Given how much Gadget has done it seems a bit irrelevent to addthe parish records for the Slaneys but here goes.

Edward Slaney father buried 10.2.1685 Drayton on Hales.
Margaret mother Will 2.9.1721 of Goldstone mentions grandchildren Edward and Ann Pegg
children
Elizabeth May 1662
Edward 1664-30.4.1665
Griffith June 1666- 7.9.1688 Will mentions siblings including brother Robert
Edward Feb 1670 burial
Richard May 1671 baptism
Robert Will 1686.

On the Pegg side
John Pegg of Drayton Will 1729 mentions wife Elizabeth Wedgewood (he was buried 28.8.1728)
Daughter Ann ,son Edward
Wife Wilmot buried 13.4.1693
The marriage licence describes John as an ironmonger of Goldstone in 1688.

Elizabeth Pegg buried 24.8.1752 may be Edward's daughter or mother.
Edward s of John Pegg bapt 7.9.1689
Anna d of John bapt 27.6.1692
Jana d of John Pegg of Drayton 4.11.1690 - buried 8.5.1694

I'm assuming this Edward is John's brother.

Martha 30.12.1699 -buried 14.3.1705 d of Edward Pegg of Drayton
Elizabeth bapt 12.1.1701 d of Edward Pegg of Drayton
Maria 19.5.1703 bapt d of Edward
Anna bapt 5.1.1705 d of Edward Pegg
Martha d of Edward bapt 1.11.1706
Sara 30.5.1710 -buried 5.9.1710 d of Edward Pegg of Drayton

I'm not sure if I mentioned it but I also remember seeing last night  something about Wilmott's death in ?1693.*

Eyes are a bit iffy today.

*Just seen that CD has listed that.

Thanks for your reply, Gadget. I think that Edward Pegg had a son before he married Willmot, there's no Mother's name on the register, just Edward's. I think that I come down from this son, John. He married a Ellen Gill. His birth is registered in  Market Drayton. I have a copy of Edward's Will and he bequeathed the land and properties to a 1st cousin. I suppose that John couldn't inherit as he was illegitimate. Edward bequeathed his clothes to a Joseph Pegg whom I don't know of but he died before Edward and I think that someone else had the clothes..
Edwards parent's were John Pegg, I think born in Market Drayton who married Willimot Slaney in 1688 at Ightfield. I have a copy of their Marriage License so I know that's right.  Willmot b. 1672, d.1693 died, as you can see, very young so they had one child, Edward.
I've been able to follow the other lines but the Pegg line eludes me.
