James Disher
« on: Saturday 07 May 22 04:25 BST (UK) »
Hi I have been trying to locate James Islay Disher (B 1928 Yenda) for many years and I keep coming up to a brick wall.  I have been able to track the Dishers back to William & Diana Short and slowly working through the male members to see if there are other Dishers from that tree living in Australia.  My late partner had another name as his birth name but we now know that was a lie.  Ancestry DNA proved that our son was a full relative to his father's brothers and sister who we were able to locate, previously. As the children in the 60s were all separated and fostered/adopted out there are no known relatives. Ancestry chain is as follows - My Son / His father 1962-2010 / James Islay 1928 -unknown / James Duncan William 1890-1961 / Thomas Daniel 1855-1920 / James  1826-1920 / William 1793-1843.  Any directional help in this matter will be appreciated.

Thank you everyone - that is all I have for James as well.  Nothing since 1954 and yet rumour had it in 1988 when I located Pat's family that last they heard he was trying to get compensation for 2 sons who were killed in a car accident (possibly in the 1960s/70s) - this was later disproved because all of his children were adopted/fostered out. I already have his and Pat's marriage certificate and waiting on his service record.  He might have died under an alias - I suppose we will never know. In light of that, I will be focusing on his uncles until something else comes up.

I know of one definite male from this family tree and a possible second male, both in Australia

Most of the information that has been listed here I already had - since August.  However still no death certificate.  Now looking under a different name as it is possible that James had an alias.  See post regarding Thomas Steele.

This is very strange. When I looked at Ancestry for James Islay Disher it defaulted to Thomas Steele and FindmyGrave link to the memorial at Newcastle 1996, the memorial has been removed.

Thanks Shume - it may because I actually added Thomas Steele to James Disher to see if I get a hit.  So far still no Steele connections through DNA but son is 100% connected to his father's siblings who are Disher so I think that is as far as I can go.  I am going to bite the bullet with the Thomas Seel entry as the timeline looks ok.  Still no grave though.  In regards to Newcastle - I did put a request for a photo and it came back that it wasn't the right one.  It had a different wife next to him.  Thanks for your assistance.
