Hello Bhx7
Could the missing spouse be Alice Mills who was baptised on 17th October 1790, possibly at St. Ebba Beadnell ? Her parents were James and Sarah Mills from Swinhoe. If this was John Dryden's spouse, her baptism record is in the Bishops Transcript for the Chapelry of Beadnell & Parish of Bamburgh. This would suggest that the Swinhoe in question is the one to the east of the current A1, and not the one west of Belford, as you could assume that the Baptism would have taken place in Belford if she was born in the other Swinhoe, nearer to Belford.
I guess that you are already aware of the 1841 census record for John & Alice Dryden and three of their four daughters, son - in - law (Jonathan Appleby), and grand daughter Mary, living in Wallsend ? Again in 1851 in Little Benton. In both cases listed as being a Saddler.
Not sure if this helps ?
