Can someone help locate the grave of Samuel Wolves Hounam, b 1896 at Giinockie, Canonbie and who died 2 June 1918? He died of a brain tumour at Kildonan and was in the 11th Battalion Black Watch.
His father and mother were both teachers at Stoneykirk on their marriage in 1894.
By the time of Samuel’s birth, in 1896, his father, John Hounam, was a teacher at Gilnockie school, Canonbie, however his wife Marion (and Samuel’s mother) is recorded as dying at Kildonan in 1897 when Samuel was one year old.
I assume that mother was buried at Stoneykirk. The announcement of Samuel’s death in the local Langholm paper says that he was buried at Stoneykirk ~ perhaps in the same grave as his mother.
I cannot locate the stone in either the old or new Stonekirk cemeteries.
Samual Wolves Hounam is mentioned on WW1 memorials at Gilkockie; Canonbie Church; Canonbie War Memorial and also Edinburgh University War Memorial.
A complicated family to research as John Hounam has a further two wives!
Thank you for any help, Bruce.
