Springwood Cottage, Hoggs Lane Chorley. When was the spring used by the public

I am researching Springwood Cottage on Hoggs Lane Chorley which was part of the Duxbury estate. At that time there was a mineral spring on the land and people came to take the healing waters. I would like to know when this was in use and when it stopped being used. Also the name of the overseer at the time.

Formerly there was a spa at Chorley, (fn. 18) and in 1847 a mineral spring was discovered or rediscovered at the old Yarrow Bridge. (fn. 19)

If yo look at the various old OS maps linked to this marker on the modern map.

You will find, for instance, that in 1847 there was a Well and on the 1895 map it was marked as Bath.

Thank you for the info.. I couldn't get  the 1895 map. Could you see if Springwood Cottage is on any maps after the bath was constructed? It will be the first house on entering Hoggs Lane on the right hand side.
Also, where can I find the tenants of Springwood Cottage?

You possibly have these references already? Numerous newspaper accounts of the mineral spring at Yarrow starting in 1846:
   Saturday,  Oct. 10, 1846, Publication: Preston Chronicle - detailed article mentions that it is on the property of John WILKINSON Esq.

Wednesday,  Nov. 4, 1846,  Publication: Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser - description of WILKINSON improving the access and sinking a well etc.

   Wednesday,  Nov. 11, 1846, Publication: Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser - description of 1500 people visiting, and medical cures. WILKINSON allowed the poor to drink for free.

Saturday,  Apr. 16, 1853, Publication: Preston Chronicle - advertisement for "The Fountain" beer house with "Mineral Spring, Baths, Pleasure Grounds and Appurtenances" near the Yarrow Bridge, "late in the possession of Mr. H. C. Boothman".

The borough boundary ran close to Springwood Cottage; the building itself is in Chorley, but the junction with the A6 is in Duxbury, which leads to a bit of confusion about what enumeration district it should be in. The Yarrow Bridge Inn is definitely in Duxbury. Unfortunately, Richard Langford seems to have missed it out of his pub histories - http://chorleyinnsandtaverns.blogspot.com/

I think that in 1901 it was described as "Yarrow Cottage", (RG13/3938 folio 47 page 34) and occupied by Estate Agent Joseph Hogg, a 58 year-old widower from Edlingham, Northumberland. Mary J Wilks is his 30 year-old niece from London.

In 1891 it has its proper name (RG12/3425 folio 84 page 11). Joseph is then 47, an Estate Bailiff, and his wife Catherine is 45 and from Meriden, Warwickshire.

In 1881, "Yarrow Spring House" (RG11/4220 folio 4 page 2) is the home of:

Catherine Hogg, Wife, Mar, 36, , Warwickshire Meriden

Just found the Yarrow Bridge in chorleyinnsandtaverns. It's listed under its earlier name, the Standish Arms.
