Where now??
« on: Friday 22 April 22 14:45 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I've been researching a long time and have a lovely full tree of names and dates etc. Aside from going back further, adding births, deaths and marriages. What other interesting things have you put on your tree.
I have addresses and occupations and some minor details but just wondered what other information i could Starr searching. Thanks for reading x

Some are available on subscription sites or county archives.

This might help: https://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/tutorials/old-school-records/

Records useful for family history :- I keep meaning to compile a list but these are off the top of my head.

First ask your family what they know, mum, dad, uncles aunts grandparents etc.
Civil Registers back to 1837 Birth, Marriages & Deaths. Census, Schools, Employment Wills, Administrations, Probate, Inventories, Immigration, Emigration, Newspapers, Directories, Church records (Parish Registers & Bishops Transcripts back to 1538) Baptisms + Births, Marriages (Banns, Licences), Maps, Poor law & Settlement records, Apprenticeship, Monumental Inscriptions, Heraldry, Burial clubs, Bibles, Adoption records, Health records, National and local tax records, Hospital & Coroners records and a host of other records that have not come to mind at the moment such as Freemans rolls
Not forgetting DNA.
Cheers
Guy

PS Electoral registers, Polling lists, land registration & property documents

In addition to the records mentioned below I would remind forum members that the Death Index & Death Certificate will/may give date of Birth, as will the 1939 National Registration but as with census returns use the dates given as guidance to locate the Birth Certificate rather than counting on it being correct, though many times it may be.
These are examples of records that may add additional information to what may be expected
