It was not unusual especially if he was illegitimate.

Death was Lewes registration district which covers these places (not Brighton)

Age at death is dependant on the knowledge of the informant, proof of birth date would not have been required at that time

He was in the 1st dragoons in 1911 but not found that census entry so far. Life in the victorian/edwardian times has a lot to answer for.
