Bate & Conn Brewery, Truro, Cornwall
« on: Thursday 07 April 22 18:36 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any information on the Bate & Conn Brewery that operated in Truro, Cornwall, England in the 1700-early 1800s. It may have been in operation earlier. All I know is that William Bate, who owned Trennick, was landlord of the Blue Anchor Pub and that he and Henry Conn operated the Bate & Conn Brewery in the late 1700s. Any additional information would be much appreciated.

Hello ppmint and welcome to RootsChat.

You have posted on the "completed lookup requests" board, I'll ask a moderator to move it.  :D

From a very quick look in the newspapers, the partnership was dissolved in 1833.

Thank you for that piece of information. That was a few months after Henry Conn's second marriage.

For interest, there are a few mentions of Henry BATE and Henry CONN in the newspapers, family notices etc, including a boating accident in 1816 where a servant drowned.  Happy to send you a copy if you don't have access.

I access old newspapers free from my computer at home through British Library Newspapers (through my library card). If you are in Canada, not sure what arrangements your libraries may have with them. There are also subscription sites where you can access newspapers - British Newspaper Archive (which you can also access through findmypast), and newspapers.com are the 2 main ones that I know of.

Thanks for the tip, Maddy. I am in western Canada, about 1/2 the globe away from you from the sounds of it. I will try my public library to see what they have.
