James Flower / Flowers b Skelton Yorks 1854/55
« on: Friday 18 March 22 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi trying to find a James Flower/Flowers born 1854/55 Skelton Yorks although place of birth keeps changing but it's definitely North Yorkshire. He married Mary Ann Bradley in Guisborough in 1876. He died in1887 aged 32 in Guisborough. I've looked everywhere in the 1881 census and cannot find him or Mary Ann. She later married an Elliott in 1889 but isn't with him on the 1891 census. In 1871 James is in Easingwold age 16 as a servant. That's if it his him. Children he had to Mary Ann were Thomas, Isobel, Arthur and William. I did see a J Flower in the lunatic asylum but I cannot find it now.

Thankyou for any info

What name does he give for his father on his marriage cert?  1861 has 2 entries but not Skelton so you need to buy the marriage cert

3 children born between 1877-1880 - have you tried searching using their names

I think this is them in 1881

Indexed as FOWLER although on the image you can see the L has been crossed out and squeezed in next to the F.

James born Helperby, fits with the farm servant from 1871 and family of Henry and Hannah in Helperby 1861

Thankyou so much. Yes parents are Henry and Hannah but on someone's tree it was William Henry.

Hello

Belatedly looking at this and I'm wondering whether you are confusing two Skeltons.

The James Flower who married in Guisborough probably lived at Skelton-in-Cleveland (part of the Guisborough registration district); the Flowers of Helperby may be connected to the Skelton just outside of York.
