Auchentoshan Ave
« on: Friday 18 March 22 07:10 GMT (UK) »
Greetings to all. My name is David Marley and I am interested in any information regarding my father James (Jim) Marley and his family. His mother and father were Daniel (Dan) Marley and Margaret (Peggy) Marley nee Anderson who lived on Auchentoshan Ave.

Of particular interest to me is the fact that Dan and Peggy were not my father's biological parents. The biological parents were John Hector Marley and Catherine Clarke who lived in Clydebank, Whitecrook, I think. I am keen to know the connection between John Hector Marley and Daniel Marley.

Any information would be most appreciated.

David Marley

There were 7 birth registrations in Scotland for Daniel 1895 – 1918 but only one John, the fact that he was born after 1911 means it may be difficult to be sure of the relationship without the records.

DANIEL MARLEY   1903   Old or West Kilpatrick

JOHN HECTOR MARLEY   1913   Old or West Kilpatrick

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Daniel appears on the 1911 census in Old Kilpatrick, which you can view to see on
https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, there is a small fee to view.

There are 22 people named Marley in Old Kilpatrick on that census, sadly Daniel does not appear to be with any of them going by the reference number. He may be with other relatives?

Why not download the two marriage certificates? If John and Daniel were brothers their parents' names will be the same, and if not you will know whose marriages you need to see in the earlier generation.

John Hector Marley died in Old Kilpatrick in 1973
Catherine Clarke or Marley died in Clydebank in 2007

Daniel Marley, mother's maiden surname Dolan, died in Old Kilpatrick in 1984
Margaret Rowan Anderson or Marley died in Old Kilpatrick in 1999

So you really only need John Hector's marriage certificate to see if his mother's maiden name was Dolan.

You can view either of both at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for a small fee.

Hello ColC and Forfarian, greetings from Australia. Thank you very much for taking the time to post the above information, it is much appreciated. However, I do currently have the above info re BDM's. As I originally posted, the relationship between Daniel Marley and John Hector Marley is the one I'm most interested in. I can safely say they were not brothers as Daniel's mother's maiden name was Dolan and John's mother's maiden name was Kane. Coincidentally, John's father is also a Daniel, as is his oldest brother b.1903

Joseph Marley and Mary Dolan were married in Old Kilpatrick in 1895.
Daniel Marley and Catherine Kane were married in Old Monkland in 1903.

Your next step is to look at those certificates and see if Joseph and Daniel were brothers.
