Matthew Kay married 11 January 1883 in Monasterivan, Co. Kildare, with Elizabeth Eustace. Elizabeth was baptized RC 9 April 1854 in Monasterivan, and died there 2 September 1892. They had one son, Michael, born 11 January 1884 Athy, Co. Kildare.

I seem to be unable to find the birth/baptism and death of Matthew Kay. Any help is welcome.

Civil Index has marriage indexed under Kaye. Matthew lived in Clogheen townland at time. aFather noted as Michael.

A death to consider, even if only to rule out:

Matthew Keys 1922 seems to have been in workhouse....could Keys have been a mistake for Kay/Kaye?

Michael's 1919 Army papers list his father Matthew as NoK, so presumably still alive at that time.

The fact that daughter Mary (seems to have) died in Athy workhouse, makes the deathin 1921  of father Matthew in the same place likely. However, the death record calls him "bachelor". Was it common to name a (long time) widower bachelor?

Spellings and other information on a death certificate especially, are only ever as accurate as the knowledge of the person providing the details. If they don't know correct details, certificate will only record what they perhaps hav assumed.
