Bill Bailey Norfolk Yeomanry - Henry W Bailey?
« on: Friday 11 March 22 02:07 GMT (UK) »
I inherited this postcard which was sent from my GG-Grandfather to his wife and child in 1915. In his message he mentions that the man on the front of the PC is "that Bill Bailey what I told you about".

At the time of writing he was serving in the Norfolk regiment, and I recognise Bill Bailey's cap badge to be of the Norfolk Yeomanry.

Forces war records lists only 1 Private Bailey who served in the Norfolk Yeomanry during WW1, Henry W Bailey. Service numbers 2884 & 140244. I have seen the medal index rolls but didn't get any extra information from them.

I have made the assumption that the middle W -> William -> 'Bill', but I'm unable to make the next step to decipher which Henry William Bailey alive at the time is the one that served in the Yeomanry.

TIA

Have you checked for a birth for Henry William Bailey?  There are 2 births in Norfolk - 1889 & 1893 - both are on the 1901 census

However - the fact he served in a Norfolk regiment does not necessarily mean he was born there

The MRI for the service numbers you quote relate only to Henry Bailey - not Henry W

Have you considered asking one of the Norfolk newspapers to print his photograph in case somebody recognises him?

Are you only researching him because his name is mentioned on the postcard?
