I have also searched emigration records as he had siblings in both Australia and South Africa but one of my wife's Aunts remembers her in Surbiton in the 40s or 50s

Thank you for making clearer for us.  We were only looking at earlier information as it was not clear to us from your initial post what her surname was when you last located her or where she was living and we were trying to work it out for ourselves  :)

Surrey North in 1963 covers a wide area.  I would suggest that you obtain his death certificate to at least help to pinpoint the area.  Plus, of course, you would have to consider cremation as well as burial!  Sorry.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Good idea. As I was writing the above that did come to mind as, if Harriett was the one who notified the death, it might move her chronology forward a bit.
