Names and places ending in Thwaite may have a connection to the Vikings.  Thwaite in Old Norse means clearing or meadow.  There is a small village in Swaledale, Yorks named Thwaite.  Think of places ending in -thwaite, e.g. Bassenthwaite, Lake District. Quite a lot of surnames ending in thwaite, too, mostly seeming to come from northern England.

The earliest Faithwaite event I have found on FindMyPast is a Charles marrying in Stillingfleet in 1774, although there are earlier Fairthwaite events in Yorks.

Then James 1777 and Robert 1778 bapt in Skipwith sons of James. Robert's record gives mother's name as Ann.

Are there a likely Charles and James crossing the Pennines?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge

Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge

Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Looks like Charles and James are born in Barnburgh, Yorks sons of Robert. They have an older brother Gershom. Surname written as Farthwait.

Gershom / Gresham 1794 is son of James - not sure which one.

May be a huge co-incidence but
there's a Robert Fathwaite marriage to Elizabeth Dixon at Halton, Lancs on 26 May 1744. Can't see any children for the couple in Lancs,
but the three sons of a Robert  are baptised in Barnbrough at the right sort of time
Gershom 17 Feb 1745
James and Charles both 22 Oct 1747 - register doesn't say if they were twins

The Lancaster Gazette published lists of Lancashire Game Duty certificates

1809
Henry Faithwaite, Caton, gent.

1810
Henry Faithwaite, Pottyeats (Littledale), gent.

Pott Yates Farm is about 6 miles due east of Lancaster. Caton is near to Halton in the same general area.
Boyd, Dove, Blakey, Burdon

Some variants of the surname in parish registers on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks including Farthwait/e, Phaithwaite, Faithet/t, Fathett, ffarthwait, Fawthwait, Fawthet,
https://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
Earliest record on LAN-OPC is a baptism, 1590, St. Paul, Caton.
Some later ones (1700s)  in registers of Tatham and Tatham Fell, the chapel-of-ease, including 1763 marriage of Thomas Fawthet of the parish of Long Preston which is in Yorkshire. There was a family whose abode was Thwaite Moss who were using Tatham Fells. Nearest town to Tatham Fell is Bentham, Yorkshire.

Earlier Thomas Winder F, b Lancaster abt 1728 s/o Henry, married Caton (little village, nice pub, a few miles from Lancaster) to Elizabeth Parkinson in 1775, died abt 1810, probate index says Littledale, burial says Caton

Parish of Caton information from a gazetteer published around 1870.
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Caton/index.html
Caton township in Lancaster parish included Littledale hamlet. Caton chapelry included all the township except Littledale hamlet. The sub-district included Claughton parish.

Burial 2nd May 1810 St. Paul, Caton
Thomas Winder Faithwaite, age 81, died 29th April, abode Littledale

Other Faithwaite burials at St. Paul included:
1814 John, age 82, abode Littledale, (R.C.)
1823 William age 8 months, abode Pot Yeats, Littledale

Likely baptism of William 1822 + baptisms of probable siblings, John, Elizabeth, Ann, Alice. Abode for some baptisms Pot Yeats.

I will start with a Thomas Winder Faithwaite born 1820 in Lancaster

Had Winder been in the family for a very long time? There was this marriage from 2 centuries earlier:
27th January 1609/10 St. Paul, Caton
Henry Farthwaite
Alice Winder
