Faithwaite

I have been researching my Faithwaite family who originated from Lancashire since I retired and in that time I have been very successful.  However I am puzzled why I cannot link my Faithwaite family to the Yorkshire Faithwaites.

It might be helpful if you gave us some info about your Faithwaites (names & dates) and which particular Yorkshire Faithwaites you wish to link to.

I will start with a Thomas Winder Faithwaite born 1820 in Lancaster and a Gresham Faithwaite born 1845 in Leeds.  My only thought originally that they must be linked as this name is unusual.

Earlier Gresham on 1841 census. Born abt 1796 (could be up to 4 years earlier due to age rounding), living in Skipwith, Yorks, Ag lab, bic. In same household Jane Pearson age 40, FS, bic and William Young, 50, nbic, gardener.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Earlier Thomas Winder F, b Lancaster abt 1728 s/o Henry, married Caton (little village, nice pub, a few miles from Lancaster) to Elizabeth Parkinson in 1775, died abt 1810, probate index says Littledale, burial says Caton

You might  consider possible surname variations, with endings like -foot, -ford, -white and others. 

Discovering that solved a recent project I worked on which involved a family with a -thwaite surname.

Depending on the depth of your interest in the surname, have you considered registering with the guild of one-name studies? This is exactly the sort of reason that people do a one- name study, and membership would put you in touch with some real experts in family history.
