As Carra says it's a mounted unit.

If that service number is 79023 or 79123 or something similar then it is definitely pre 1921.

Looking at the WW1 medal rolls, there were of course many soldiers with those numbers. Discounting infantrymen, the most likely candidates are artillerymen: RGA or RFA.

Thanks Jim1 and ShaunJ. Interesting that you think the most likely candidates could include RGA as my Grans eldest brother served with them. You've given me something to investigate. Thanks for your help.
