More Help with identifying uniform and country
« on: Sunday 20 February 22 20:52 GMT (UK) »
Another one from the family archive - this time a group photo.  I'm assuming that like the others in the collection it dates from WW1 - could that be right?  Are there any clues as to the regiment and/or thecountry or part of the world where the picture might have been taken?  Some features suggest cavalry or at least a connection with horses- the figure on the right hand side has patches on his legwear that remind me of those found on jodphurs and the brush in the hand of the seated man looks like the type of brush used on horses.
I find this photo fascinating and would love to know a bit more about the background to it.
Thanks in advance.

I think I can see the word 'Finishers' at the top of your pic, may be a clue to something?

Yes I see the word Finishers too. It looks like WW1 as the guy seated at the front is wearing putters on his legs. It looks like the sign top left says Latrine. Great photo and in good condition too.

Good spot - I'd completely missed the writing. I'd tried to read the sign on the left but couldn't make anything out. It is in good condition isn't it?

The chap sitting has the same uniform jacket (Kings Liverpool Regiment) as the chap in your other post...

That's interesting! Now I'm starting to wonder if the man on the left is the same person as the one in the photo on my other post. Probably wishful thinking. How I wish I'd spoken to my Gran about these photo's, but I didn't know they existed until clearing out some of Dad's things!

There's nothing much that can be  gleaned from the tunic as this
was standard Army issue from 1902 up to the mid 30's.
Not as late as that as the lanyard was transferred to the right shoulder around mid 20's.
The photo looks typical of a TF annual camp.
The man in uniform doesn't wear any medal ribbons so either didn't serve WW1 or this is pre war.

Do some of them have their service numbers sewn onto their shirts? Chap standing in the middle 79023 or something similar?

I thought that might be the case also, handy to know when the washing comes back.
