Thomas Willis Ireland to Lanark County, Ontario, Canada
« on: Sunday 13 February 22 15:35 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Thomas Willis who was born in Ireland (possibly Wexford) in or about 1776. He arrived in Lanark County (Morphy's Falls) in about 1820. He did marry but I do not know the name of his wife. He did have at least one daughter Mary Elizabeth Willis who married John Hugh David Morphy, and at least 3 sons (do not know names). I do not know when he died or where he is buried. Thank you in advance for any information you might provide to me.

This may be info you already have, but a likely brother of Thomas named George was also having children marrying in Morphy's Falls in the same timeframe -- Sarah to William Morphy. Further info suggests that George was born around 1778.  Other Willis men who came there after George were Thomas, Henry, William & Catin (a highly unusual name).   Reference to Thomas' death in 1860 here:

He is likely buried in the large unmarked grave noted in the above link at Riverside Park.

I thank you very much for looking up information on Thomas Willis. I read through the whole article you sent, but could not find any reference to his death in 1860.

My apologies. I misread that.  John died 1860, but it is likely that Thomas is buried in the same unmarked grave.

I don't know whether the info in this publication (link below) is the same as in the link posted above by eileenwilson. Willis is mentioned in the personal names section. Unfortunately it is subject to copyright and only available to view in person at the Toronto Reference Library....they cannot provide copies.

But....

It also appears to possibly be available through familysearch. I didn't check it out but there is a box that says view inside so one could sign in there and have a look. You need to scroll down down the link a bit....

The copyright info seems a bit different for the familysearch copy, perhaps because FS is USA based?

Yoiks!!! I can see them protecting their copy but how can anyone but the McDougalls own the copyright to their family history compilation?
