The Last Will and Testament
of me John Harvey Bellman of Down in the County of Kent
Gentleman I give and bequeath all my household furniture goods and
other household effects whatsoever unto my dear wife Annie Grace for
her own absolute use and benefit And I give  devise and bequeath the
interest or income of all my share of and in the monies to arise from
the sale of certain hereditaments and premises situate in Bedfield in
the County of Suffolk bequeathed to me by the will of my late uncle
Raynor Bellman and all my money and securities for money unto my
said wife during her life if she shall so long continue my widow and
after her decease or second marriage which shall first happen I give
devise and bequeath the same monies unto my four brothers and my
sister Fanny Charlotte Chevailier in equal shares and I appoint my
brother Henry Bellman of Bungay in the said County of Suffolk
Gentleman Executor of this my Will In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand this 18th of April day of April one thousand eight hundred
and fifty six J H Bellman signed and acknowledged by the said
Testator as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us
present at the same time who in his presence have subscribed our
names as witnesses, Witness George Snow, Down Street. George Francis
Duck Down Street. dated April 18th 1856

Proved at London 10th September 1873 by the oath of Henry Bellman
the Brother the sole Executor to whom adnton* was granted.

* I think ths wil be an abbreviation of ‘adminstration’.
(The squiggles at the end of lines that look a bit like 'a's, are just fillers to complete the line.)

There is a record in the probate calendar. 10th September 1873
John Henry Bellman ‘formerly of Down in the County of Kent but late of Tottenham in the County of Middlesex’.

There are several records that give a marriage of John Havey Bellman to an Annie Grace Verrier June 29th 1854 Christ Church, North Adelaide, South Australia.
He was 35 years old, and she was 20.
(From a transcription of the marriage.)
He seemingly arrived in Australia on The Aden ship in 1849.

Is this your same man?

Hey goldie61

That is fantastic - thank you so much😘

I was struggling to get it all although I did note that it wasn’t proved until some considerable time after both his death and that of his wife Annie Grace Verrier who is one of my Verrier family.

From what I have it seems he was something of a black sheep in the Bellman family who seemed to otherwise consist of a number of clerical males.  He appears to have met and married during a fairly brief time in Australia (same with Annie), returned to the uk and then she had a stillborn child and dies herself shortly after.

The Bellman and Chevaillier families were somewhat prominent in Suffolk but Annie Grace was not!

I cannot work out what he was doing in Down so that is my next move.

Thanks so much for taking the time to look at the will
