Liverpool Anglican Cathederal -stonemason
« on: Saturday 29 January 22 13:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  we've had a longstanding family story that one of my gr. grandparent's family was a head stonemason who worked on the cathedral being built. Would anyone know if records exist of the building work, please? My grandfather's family, originally from Rhyl, were stone masons, family name Ricketts, but could be Owen(s) from my grandmother's side.

I don't know if this is useful:-

There is a John Ricketts on the National School Admission Registers & Log-Books 1870-1914 at Emmanuel School, Rhyl, born on 21st May 1892. Father given as Evan of Greenfield Street, Mill Bank.
Brother, Evan, born 12th April 1888 is next on the list.

A stone mason matching John is listed in 1939

David

Thanks both. Evan Ricketts was my gr.gr. grandfather and his son David Ellis was my gr. Grandfather. David went to America so it's not him in Liverpool, but could have been one if his brothers, thank you.

David Ellis Ricketts is also on the Emmanuel school register in 1899, b 25th May 1885, son of Evan of 6 Millbank.
In 1891 he and his sister Jane, b 1st June 1887, are on the register, this time of 11 Millbank. The 1901 census has them all at 11 Greenfield Street (Mill Bank)

John in 1939 is David's brother.
