« on: Friday 28 January 22 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Hoping to find parents of Lt. John Wilton who married Jane Shae in Rathkeal, Limerick, Ireland, on June 1, 1806. Think her parents were Daniel and Catherine O'Shae. John and Jane had daughters jane and Ruth and son John Robert.

Have since found that Daniel and Catherine were 'Sposores',Godparents?? on the baptism record of the Wilton's daughter Ruth. With their surname being O'Shea I thought there might be some connection to Jane Shea.

Good Afternoon
I assume you've found the widows pension records for Jane which says John died in Bangalore in 1820.
His burial record confirms him as Leut John Wilton born 1783 and buried 28.8.1820
He is recorded as an Officer in the Army from 1810 -Officers in Penisula War against Napoleon ,but the clincher is
John Wilton substitute (ie filling in for someone else who was called up) 1803  53 rd Foot Army Reserve Doncaster West Yorkshire.
The only possible baptism in the County of West Yorkshire is at Shefield.(Other other one is at Wath s of John and Mary 21.3.1785 N.York)

John Wilton 11.11.1781 son of Robert and Ruth Wilton .button maker.
The couple married at Sheffield cathedral 6.6.1780
Robert Wilton and Ruth Heald wit John Lee and Thomas Hall who seem to be the clerks.

Children John,Hannah 25.12.1783-24.4.1785,Sarah 16.4.1786-20.11.1796 ,Elizabeth 29.10.1788 ,Mathew 12.6.1791-29.1.1792 ,Lidia 24.5.1793 (only one as lab)-23.9.1793 ,Harriet 11.2.1795,James 28.2.1800,Benjamin buried 28.9.1806,Mary 23.6.1802-28.1.1817(Park Sheffield)

Robert buried 10.5.1808 button maker Ruth remarried at Rotherham Minister Richard Pearson lab 19.8.1810.Both widowed. Wit John Bamforth and Benjamin Taylor.
She was buried back at Sheffield 19.6.1818 w of Richard Pearson . Born 1761.

It looks like she was the daughter of Benjamin Heald  button maker 5.6.1763 Sheffield which would explain where the Benjamin came from.
Not doing so well with Robert Wilton.
But you were right

Hi
No it's still me.Ciderdrinker.
The extra military record is from FindMyPast.
It's under Napoleonic War Records
John Wilton
year 1803
place Doncaster
53rd Foot
Status substitute
Ref E182/1169(pt3)
Vol. 5
Army of Reserve
Napoleonic War Records 1775-1817

It doesn't show an image of the actual record.
There were lists of all the young men eligible to be called up to fight by parish and if you were called up ,you could get someone  else to take your place.Usually it involved some sort of payment to a young unmarried man who fancied seeing the World.

I can email you the entry on FindMyPast but as I said it has no document attached.
