Barnes/Leam Crichton 1765

Image of Marriage is on Ancestry, you need to search 1765 Crich Derbyshire for

John Bearns = Elizabeth Seam

Not totally the fault of Ancestry, first line records there names as Barns and Leam

However then look at what John signs as, Elizabeth makes her mark against the name Seam.

Yes, I have that image, was hoping it might indicate whether Elizabeth was a spinster or widowed at the time of the marriage.. No such luck!

For such an unusual family name, this one is proving difficult to follow 

FWW, after the death of John Barnes, she later went on to marry a William Annable, and was still living in 1807 when her son, John provided for her care in his Will.

OK, I now have a burial for Elizabeth on 14 May 1822 in Crich, aged 90.

So she was likely born Abt 1731, which means that the age of 21 yrs given on the 1753 marriage licence for Elizabeth Thorp would fit..

And for a young lady to marry for the first time in 1765, aged Abt 34yrs would be unusual?

I am fine, thanks for asking, how are you?

As John, the son, in his Will named his mother as Annable, feel sure you have correct line of Thorp, Leam, Barns, Annable.

Noticed in John’s Will he mentions, as one of his Friends a William Leam, can you link him back to Samuel Leam first husband?

Another connection is that, although not actually living in the village of Crich, there are burials there for Annables from Belper Laund, which is in Belper parish of Duffield, which may account for their marriage in Duffield Church.

There must be a strong connection to Crich, quite a walk from Belper to Crich.

The link with Belper/Heage is one I understand from earlier research on this family. They were at least partially nonconformists, and it was the Belper/Heage Chapel where a number of family members were active. I have a memoir from one of them which recounts that walk being taken regularly, and apparently not always sober either.

I'm following up on William Leam too, but everything begins to point to Elizabeth being born Thorp.
