This is not going to help you in the slightest but see that Locks/Lockes are a branch of the Boswell family (gypsy) and one of the families I read about had 2 sons that went to America one of whom was named Roli (short for Roland??).

Wonder if this is why there is nothing on Frank Roland Locke before his marriage.   I know they avoided the census if they could, and often avoided registering their children's births but would usually get them baptised.

An Osier Trimmer certainly sounds like someone involved in basket making.

What is on the marriage certificate, 1914?

There should be address for bride and groom, occupation for bride and groom, and their fathers, names of witnesses, married in church?....what denomination?

Frank Roland Locke and Emma Maria Stafford were married in Church in St Helen's on 14 November 1914, having lived in what has been described as a Boarding House (address was given) and the two witnesses on the Certificate actually married the year after. I'm sure I was told that there was no need to provide birth certificates to the Vicar. This man (mainly because of the lack of family information from within their home) has always been a mystery. When my mother was born (the eldest), Emma Maria went back to Countesthorpe, Leicestershire for the birth in August 1915, all the rest were born in St Helens. My cousin has done the Stafford family tree back to around 1700. Thanks for the support.

Wow! Yes that is my grandfather, and Derbyshire Hill is where the other children were born. With regards to the middle name Roland, my mother gave my oldest brother that as his middle name, means that at least it was used in the Locke home.

I’ve tried searching for Frank's father named John, John William, J.W. Lock(e) with occupation osier trimmer/cutter/basket maker but have drawn a blank  ???

A picture of an Osier Cutter c1890
https://www.francisfrith.com/uk/generic/special-subjects-the-osier-cutter-c1890_a001049

At the moment the only Frank Lock I’ve found with a father John born 1888 Combest Nicholas, Somersetshire and his father John occ General labourer/Agr Lab.,/Farm lab. and Frank’s occ 1911 farm labourer (neither have middle names)

For info. I've added the link to the censuses
1891 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WPCC-RW2
1901 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XS84-WMH
1911 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X7R4-FR4

Franks birth is in the right qtr. but no middle name  :-\

LOCK, FRANK    mmn  COLLINS
GRO Reference: 1888  M Quarter in CHARD  Volume 05C  Page 406

Ann’s Collins married John Lock, labourer on 25 Jun 1885 married at Buckland St Mary, Somerset

I have only found a baptism for son Samuel that gives his date of birth 28 Jul 1886 have not found one for Frank

His brothers

William Lock died 10 April 1916 served with Somerset Light Infantry, 3rd Bn
Samuel Lock died of wounds on 29 Jun 1918 served with Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, 1st Bn

There is this entry in Ireland 1911 but it's only an initial F for christian name :-\

F Locke age 23 , single, general labourer born in England on 1911 Ireland census
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QYVY-83N2
It’s return of Military, R.I. Constabulary or Metropolitan Police in Barrack, there are many other names on this census F Locke appears between J Livett 20 & F Marshall 20

Many thanks for all your research. I'm going to have a chat with my cousin as to what we do next.
