I have been researching the Dale family for the past two month and have put together the family originally of brother and sisters from Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland. David, Esther and later Sarah came to Wigan with William Barrett who is the Uncle of Mary Barret married to James Dale on the Thorold 1851 Census. They married in 1841 and had two children Thomas, named after her fathering 1842 and Joseph in 1844. In 1846 they came to Canada with the two boys and Jame's sister Rebecca Dale born 1826. David was born near Osgoode, Ontario in 1846 and the other children in Thorold. My gg grandmother Rebecca Dale stopped in Whitby Ontario and married John Sowerby there in 1847. There is another son, Samuel, born 1838, who later emigrated to New York, raised a family in New Jersey and had more children with a second wife in Chicago. I am in contact with someone from Manchester who has helped with the Wigan Dales. Are you on Ancestry? I have the whole family there.
