What has happened to NSW BDMs
« on: Sunday 09 January 22 01:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Can someone tell me what NSW have done to their index lookups.   Apparently from what I can gather, and I could be completely wrong, I can no longer look up the index.   The bdms seem to have moved to something called Services NSW but I cant find the index.  Can anyone point me in the right direction.  I might add I have been doing these lookups from Queensland for about 25 years but it now seems to have completely changed.  Caught Covid perhaps.

Services NSW is the 'latest' iteration - it's all about the cash inflow for the NSW treasury.   The online indexes are still searchable at the link Neale has kindly posted.  And finally you can drill down to get the exact date for the event (but don't try it on the Early Church Records cause the software isn't good enough to sort that !) Also, once you have found the reference number, you can check if the person of interest was indexed under any other surname simply  by using pen and paper to note down the registration number and then re-do a search BUT answering YES to the question " Do you know the registration number of the Birth you are searching for?" and entering the reference number in its dialogue box and the year in its dialogue box.

The Old Boys network from back in the manual clerking era claims it will likely take twice as long now to do anything compared to say when EDP was first introduced to NSW BDM.
