If you wanted to spend a few $$, the Qld marriage certificate should include Groom's parents' names and father's occupation, as well as the groom's place of birth.

I would imagine the death certificate of Michael LANGAN in NSW in 1915 should provide accurate information if provided by his brother. Again, should include birth place, residency and parents' names.

Thank you Maddys52 for your ongoing interest.

I will think about getting the certificates - except getting one from NSW is such a hassle - well it was the last tine I did so which was many years ago.
It is a pity that NSW does not include an age in their death index.

Regards

You can get a transcription of certificates/s in NSW from the various transcription agents.
Much cheaper than an actual certificate.  Also if you don't want all the info, or only want specific info, it can be cheaper still.

you could try searching the NSW police gazettes, which are available online from 1860-1930 at the National Library of Australia's Trove website.

also look at these results from the same website (which cover all Aus newspapers) and see if there is anything relevant:

A belated thank you to Valerie (who sent a private message), Billyblue and R Wilks.

Thank you for the extra suggestions in finding policemen in Australia
