Argentina Birth, Marriage, Death records
« on: Sunday 02 January 22 14:54 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if it is possible to access birth, marriage, death records for Argentina? I’m in the UK.
I have made a partial breakthrough in tracing the family of my great uncle through 2 references in Argentina burial records.  Is an Acta De Ingreso the same as a UK death certificate?  Or is it more like a Funeral Directors instruction/order.
Or is there another official Death Certificate which may give more information, like the name of the informant or next of kin?

My great uncle, Herbert Glover Steed, is mentioned in the 1895 Argentina Census.  In a letter to his full sister & half sister, he mentions the names Bernarda and Juana.  When his full sister, Ada Jane Steed, died in 1951, her estate was left to her ‘niece of the full blood’ Juana Steed.  The records I have found show that Bernarda Steed died in 1936, age 23, single, La Plata, Buenos Aires. Juana Steed died in 2008, aged 93, single, also La Plata.
If I could access their birth certificates, I might find their mother’s name.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

A 'partida de defunción' is a death certificate.  An 'acta de ingreso' is a document that records the submission/receipt of information or evidence of some kind.

Thank you for that.  The Acta de Ingreso does have some information but it seemed more like a funeral direction than a death certificate.
The search goes on.

You could try writing to the Registro Civil to see whether there is any way for you to order a copy of birth and death certificates.  They probably have someone who can handle an inquiry in English.

Juana was a widow when she died according to the acto de ingreso. Her husband's surname was SANTOS and this is confirmed by her funeral notice, which also lists some relatives. I'll PM you with a link to the funeral notice, since the relatives named will be living. There are also 2 Steeds in  the  baptism register for Quilmes, La Plata in 1899 & 1900 http://www.argbrit.org/Quilmes/Qbapts1892-1901.html and also one in 1906 and 2 in 1912 http://www.argbrit.org/Quilmes/Qbapts1901-1915.htm

Sam, thank you so much for all the amazing new information.
The names in the baptismal records are new to me, and at first sight I don't think they are my kin.  But I will have a look with a fresh eye, to be sure.

The funeral notices are very interesting, and match with some details I had cobbled together from other sources.  I’m looking forward to piecing a bit more of the family jigsaw together.  Maybe find out what happened to great uncle Herbert!

Many thanks for your work.
 It is much appreciated.
