The 1841 census does not show marital status but this looks like Mary with the children (at her parents?):

William Gibson 60 lab b. Ireland
Isabella Gibson 30 b. Ireland
Mary Mckie 25 b. Ireland
Isabella Mckie 4
William Mckie 2
Alex Mckie 6 Months

Address: Main St, Stewarton Ayrshire

You're correct. That's a great find. Thank you so much.

So something has happened to the father, Alexander around 1840/41. And she remarries in 1846.

Could this burial/death entry in the OPRs connect to Alexander Snr.?

ALEXR MCKEY

The census that year was on the night of the 6 June.

That's a strong possibility thank you. I think the various spellings of Alexander and Mackay were catching me out.
