William Elford-Agnes Benham Pharoah

Hi I am after help with information on William Elford,I know he married Agnes Benham Pharoah on 2nd March 1878 in Portsmouth and his rank was a private in the 55th regiment based at Clarence barracks Portmouth he was 33 and she was 21 From the certificate his father was George Elford.

From the birth certificate of his daughter Charlotte Eliza born in November 1878 they lived in at Thomas street in Portsmouth still a private in the 55th regiment.

In 1880 they had a son William Fredrick Elford but in the 1881 census Agnes is a widow in tooting graveney so he must have died before 1881.

I am stuck going back to find Williams parents and I am unable to find any death information

There is a death in Portsmouth around the same time but the index and burial information for that one have age 15

Hi I found that too but didn't know how to prove it was him.

His father's occupation was a labourer and the witnesses were G Pharoah and the Mark of Esther Hays

Thank you.  Witnesses are probably not much help unless Esther Hays was a married sister or similar.

The death certificate should show his occupation.  The information on it is dependant on the knowledge of the informant so age could be wrong.

The death certificate will not give any details of his birth place or parents.
