Jimmy Scullion, Ballsbridge

Can anyone help, Please   My fathers' half-brother, James Scullion, born c1901 (+/- 1), was born to my Gran. 'out of wedlock' and, I presume adopted. I suppose it's possible Scullion was the name of my Grans' boyfriend ?
Catherine Mckeown, my Gran, later moved from near Moneymore, to Glasgow where she married my Granda.
I know, from relatives, Jimmy had visited her in glasgow, but the only information that survives is an address in 'Ballsbridge, Dublin'.
I've no idea what he worked at, and as far as I know, he never married.
Any suggestions to where I can start a search, would be great,

Have you looked for his birth in the indexes? It should have been registered though you should check all surnames. These are available at the Dublin GRO or on film at your local family history centre. (Church of the latter day saints)

You might strike unlucky. Notice the wording of Kated's very carefully worded reply.  I feel that this is possibly a case where one SHOULD read the small print. SHOULD appears twice in a sentence of eleven words. Roughly speaking that is a twenty percent appearance.

Moneymore in Co. Derry do you mean? Reading between the lines here you may find yourself struggling. The birth may not have been registered.  www.from-ireland.net/gene/civilregistration.htm  www.groireland.ie/history2.htm This looks like a case of a young woman having a child out of wedlock and avoiding the authorities until such time as she married in Glasgow and became a respectable citizen.

Hi,

By 1901 the compliance was very high. When you are looking for early registration just after 1864 that's when you get into problems. Out of wedlock was pretty common.
