LDS site ?
« on: Sunday 12 December 21 10:30 GMT (UK) »
Morning all , I have used "Family Search LDS" site for quite a while , but recently when i search for a person , i only get 3 results showing, although it does state many more results available.
There is no obvious way (that i can see) to access the rest of the records.

Has anyone else come across this ? , and how do you access all the records ?
TIA
Julie

Yes, their default seems to be 'something is wrong' or 'error' messages.... like many of these websites they ask for more and more information to target their databases and it comes up with nothing...... one thing I have found is limit the  info, if for example your ancestor was born in 'Rearsby Leicester', just put 'Leicester' and if nothing comes up put 'Leicestershire' as you will get different 'results' with all of those....and click on one 'record' , then 'view record' and where it says "attached in Family tree" click on the name below that and it will give you a box with 'sources' click on that and it will show several 'records' and more inportantly where they are from as many are 'extracted IGI', but at least you know that these need checking as they are generally not real

Thank You , It appears whatever i put in the search engine , only 3 matches appear .
Has been like this for a few weeks now . Thinking it may have been something to do with my account , i have "rejoined" the site with a new account .
Real shame , as i did use the site a lot , and found lots of valuable information there.

No problems here - I searched for "John" born 1800-1802 in the Bristol parish registers and I appear to have 116,092 answers, 20 entries per page and 245 pages!
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Not wishing to insult your intelligence, but this has happened to me before, and I was making a really silly mistake.  :-[
I'm sorry if I can't explain this very well but on the RH edge of your computer screen there is the grey strip where you left click and scroll down the page.  Well, on the results page of a FS search there are two grey strips.  If you use the extreme RH one you will only see three results. You need to use the smaller one on the inside.  Use that to scroll down the page  and you will see 20 results (if that is what your page is set to).
I hope you see what I mean! I was caught out by this more than once.

Yes I've had similar problems bevj.
On my tablet with this new look site, there are so many little boxes that flip up on the right hand side, and then the key board pops up and covers half the page and the boxes when you want to fill in the names and dates in one of those boxes, it's almost impossible to see what you're doing most of the time!
I used to be a huge fan of familysearch. Not any longer I'm afraid.
Thank goodness they don't seem to have 'improved' the catalog.
