Baptism circa 1829-1831, Stratford upon Avon
« on: Tuesday 07 December 21 19:22 GMT (UK) »
:) Can anyone help please. My 3 x great grandmother Catherine Selina Whale was born circa 1830-1831 to John Whale, a coal merchant, mother Elizabeth (formerly Sanders Gilbert). Almost certain that Catherine was born in Stratford. On the 1841 census, she's at a private boarding type school in Stratford down as Selina Whale(her parents both having passed away) family church was Holy Trinity. Had a look online at various websites but can't find anything. For some reason, her parents married in Derbyshire, looked to see if there was any records there but nothing. Any help is appreciated.

“Almost certain Catherine was born in Stratford”

She married in 1847 to Henry Robert Wilkins.   Have you confirmed her birthplace on the 1851 census

If I have the correct mother Elizabeth Whale was buried 3 January 1833 age 30 at Salford Priors Warwickshire listed as of Dunnington.
I would try Salford Priors and surrounding area Catherine Selina's baptism

Note
In his will John Whale (probate 24 August 1837) refers to Selina as his natural daughter, this can mean he is acknowledging her as his daughter but possibly not born in wedlock. Not proof positive.

That 1826 marriage also says that Elizabeth Sanders Gilbert was a widow.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The Allegation for the 1826 marriage is available on FindMyPast, under the surname Whall.  John is a bachelor, Commercial Traveller, aged 21 years and upwards, and a resident of the parish of St Werburgh.  Elizabeth is noted as being a widow and a resident of the parish of St Alkmund.
