May I suggest that you give dates for your couple, estimates will do and perhaps an idea of exactly what you are looking for.  People are very willing to help but need a little more to go on  :)

From an obit that appeared in Midlothian Advertiser 30 September 1949, it states that Alexander had been been Managing Director of Patrick Thomson Ltd. for 37 years up to 1944. He was also a JP. He left his widow and one son and one daughter when he died.

See here for some details on the company Patrick Thomson Ltd www.housefraserarchive.ac.uk/company/?id=c0725 and also www.scotsman.com/news/look-back-edinburghs-patrick-thomsons-shopping-centre-scotland-627489

1861 Heatherstacks, Muiravonside, Stirlingshire:

William Gardner, 26, blacksmith, b. Slamannan,
Agnes, 19, b. Muiravonside,
John, 4, b. Muiravonside,
Elisabeth, 2, b. Muiravonside,
Andrew, 0, b. Muiravonside

1851 at Parkhead Farm, Falkirk, working for John Barclay, farmer of 50 acres, employing 1 labourer:

William Gardner, servant, 16, ag. lab*., b. Slamannan

* FindMyPast says "coal miner", common sense and FreeCEN (which is generally more reliable) says ag. lab.

Marriage;
13 June 1856
Muiravonside House, Stirlingshire, Scotland
Willm GARDNER to Agnes STEVENSON

From this census entry;
Charlotte "N.", 11, scholar
She was bapt as Charlotte Nimmo Gardner 17 Jul 1858
(Nimmo may be a Family name further back)

She must have died before 1861 Census as they name another Daug Charlotte later.

Trish :)
