Has anyone found a work around for these discs to run on Windows 10?

No personal experience, but from https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16107

  • if the problem is "Run-time error '75': Path/File access error"
then if you right click the installed programme and select 'run as administrator' it may work.
  • You can set applications to automatically Run as administrator.
Right-click the Viewer installed executable file and choose Properties.
On the Compatibility tab, towards bottom tick Run this program as an administrator and click OK.
  • The other Compatibly mode options may also be worth trying with either the installation file or the installed file.

Otherwise other suggestions included using a pre-Windows 10 computer, or the familysearch website  ::)

Thanks for coming back to me, I bought it in the days I was using XP and 10 doesn't like it. So I'll have to offer it to someone with XP or earlier.

The viewer won't work on any 64-bit system, including XP-64 bit, only on 32-bit systems.

I can confirm it does work fine on Win 10 32-bit.

Michael.

My website at https://tinyurl.com/j5b2u93b gives instructions how to make it run in Windows 10. However since I last updated that page Windows has changed and in some cases the file RFVFolioExport.ocx is missing (or corrupt) and needs to be replaced. The file can be downloaded from the internet.

My earlier post about the Viewer was wrong as I've now been able to get version 4 working on Win 11 Pro 64-bit with the BIVRI Second edition.

It's the 1881 census & national index that the viewer will not allow to be added, the error code is runtime 5.
