It was a very bizarre situation. I can understand one Misfortune for my grandmother but to have three by the same man in the 1920s!! He didn’t leave his family. My grandmother was disowned by her family and moved to Northampton in 1926 where she stayed. She came from a devout Irish Roman Catholic family and for a while I thought he might have been Jewish (my family have very Jewish looks and we often wondered where it might have come from) but I don’t think he was.
