1861 Census lookup please
« on: Sunday 08 August 04 23:48 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me with an entry at Dartmoor Street, Notting Hill for the name of CARR, possibly John. I am particularly interested in his birthplace and if any members of the WILLS family were there too. This would solve a 15 year mystery.

Many thanks,
Chris

1861: Dartmoor Street, Farm Street is Rg9-17 Fol 83-98.

It's too late to look at victorian handwriting tonight.

Thanks Pauline. Great Redding should actually read Great Bedwyn in Wilts. This is interesting because the 1851 census of Newbury gives that as his birthplace, but the 1841 census says Newbury! So I still have some work to do. Thanks again for your help.

hi Chris,
don't know if you've found the answer to your question about Dartmoor st in Notting Hill. The street still exists under it's new name - Hillgate Place. I found it by checking Victorian London street directories and cross matching with modern directories. I also had rellies in Dartmoor st in 1859 so I was determined to find it :)
Hope this helps a little.
