Frogley family in Wantage
« on: Thursday 04 November 21 22:16 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the baptism of Bartholomew Frogley, possibly around 1708... He married Ann Hinder on 4th November 1733 in Besselsleigh and the couple had eight children all baptised in Wantage (including another Bartholomew in 1749).
A family tree I have seen on FamilySearch suggests he was born around 1708 and was the son of John Frogley and Mary Gregory but I'm not sure whether there is any evidence of this.
If anyone can help with a look-up I'd be very grateful.

I've looked at the OFHS transcription CD for Wantage and cannot see a birth for Bartholomew.   At first glance, the only Bartholomew FROGLEY is the once you already have in 1749.

You probably have the marriage of John FROGLEY and Mary GREGORY - 6 March 1697/98. FreeReg notes "married at Oxford".

The only reference I can see to the FROGLEY's in Wantage in papers at this time are advertisements for a John FROGLEY taking over the Bear Inn (from John GILBERT). John FROGLEY "for many Years was Cook at the Half Moon Tavern, Cheapside, London". - various papers eg 31 Aug 1734, The London Evening Post. No indication whether this is same John FROGLEY who married Mary GREGORY.

Thankyou for looking this up for me. I don't think I'm going to find Bartholomew anywhere!

I can’t help with a baptism record but Bartholomew was my sixth gt grandfather.
He was definitely the son of Mary Gregory and John Frogley.

Just interested to know - if you don't have his baptism, how do you know that Bartholomew was the son of John FROGLEY and Mary GREGORY?
