ANNETT families Cargans and Tandragee
« on: Saturday 30 October 21 03:27 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone has been able to successfully connect the various Annett families of Cargans and Tandragee.  We have DNA matches in particular to descendants of Thomas Annett & Sarah Geddes and his contemporary Thomas Annett & Elizabeth Tolley.  We have connections in Cargans from Redpath, Bennett, Whitten, Heak & Annett.  Thanks in advance for any ideas.  :)

James Redpath m Ann Jane Annett (daughter of Thomas Annett & Sarah Geddes) 28 Oct 1862 Tandragee Presbyterian Church. We have DNA matches to descendants of this couple.
David Annett (son of Thomas Annett & Sarah Geddes) m Elizabeth Heak 27 Jun 1889 Ballymore Parish Church.
Then there is Thomas Annett (son of Thomas Annett & Elizabeth Tolley) m Catherine Redpath 14 Aug 1856 Kilkee Co. Down. We have a lot of DNA matches to descendants of this couple.
So one might think that it is a Redpath only connection however we also have
Elizabeth Jane Annett (daughter of Thomas Annett & Elizabeth Tolley) m Joseph Crawford whose descendants are also a DNA match.
John Whitten (son of Robert Whitten d 1865 Cargans and left a Will) m Sarah Annett (daughter of William Annett of Cargans) 12 Oct 1854 Ballymore Parish Church is also a connection.
At Cargans there is also a DNA link to the descendants of Andrew Heak m Susannah Whitten (daughter of Robert Whitten d 1865 Cargans and left a Will) 1840.
So I am wondering if anyone already knows of the relationship between the various Annett families, Redpath & Whitten families who were intermarrying around Cargans, Tullyhue, Tandragee.
Any ideas would be very welcome, thanks  :)

Hello, my great grandmother was Bessie Ann Redpath- She was born to James & Ann James Redpath of Cargans on 10/25/1870.  I live in the US and would so love to connect with any family I may have still in Ireland.  I plan to go there eventually when I am able to.  I understand there was a farm there that I have never been able to locate.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Mary

This looks to be James Redpath in the 1901 census. He was living with his son Thomas who was a farmer.

Looking at the Valuation revision records on the PRONI website, Thomas Redpath is shown on plot 6 which was a 25 acre farm. Today that’s up a lane at the point where the Madden Rd meets Cargans Rd. It looks from Google Earth to still be a working farm today.

You probably have this, but here's the link to their marriage in 1862. James Redpath aged 21, Ann Jane Annett aged 20 and both living in Cargans. Married at Tandragee Presbyterian Church (then a Meeting House).

Hi Mary, I am not sure if there are any living descendants of James & Ann Jane Redpath still in the Tandragee/Cargans area. Some years ago I corresponded with Ken Redpath (a descendant of your Bessie's brother) but have since lost touch.  At that time he thought that the James Redpath family of Cargans and our Thomas Redpath (near Maddens Bridge as mentioned) were not connected but we have since had DNA matches with James Redpath's descendants proving they were related.  James & Ann Jane are buried at the Presbyterian Churchyard in Tandragee.  I have a photo of their gravestone taken 2013 but it failed to upload.  Regards Heather Cook
